SEC to Respond to Coinbase Legal Defense on July 13th

• The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will present its response to Coinbase’s first legal defense on July 13.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) submitted a request to the court for a three-business-day extension in order to prepare their response to Coinbase’s legal defense. Judge Katherine Polk Failla approved the SEC’s request for more time and set the new date of July 13.

The court also rescheduled the pre-trial conference to a pre-motion conference, shifting it from its original date of Aug 24, to July 13 at 2:00 pm UTC. A pre-motion conference is presented by either the prosecutor or defense attorney seeking a ruling on specific matters prior to trial.

Coinbase Files Motion

Coinbase recently filed a letter with the court requesting leave to file a motion for judgment on the pleadings under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 12(c). This was in response to the SEC’s complaint against them and they included substantial material in their answer for consideration by the judge.

Prior, Coinbase had also filed an 177 page answer 40 day before deadline of Aug 7th that included comprehensive Preliminary Statement outlining their legal arguments for dismissal of case.
